During the month of May, Modern Office joined forces with community organisation Rise Up Tauranga to coordinate a furniture drive to help residents of Edgecumbe whose homes were damaged or destroyed in the recent devastating flood.
A number of Edgecumbe residents were uninsured and lost many possessions, and were in great need of furniture in particular. A few staff members had heard first-hand how the flood was affecting residents, so the idea of how we could help was formed. We had the necessary resources - the manpower and the trucks, and Rise Up Tauranga had the networks and community reach. So together, this was a great combination for an effective campaign.
We sent our installation team all across Tauranga to pick up furniture from those who were unable to drop it off at The Cargo Shed (the Rise Up Tauranga
collection point). Our guys also delivered a number of truck loads of furniture from The Cargo Shed down to Edgecumbe.
The response was absolutely incredible. The Cargo Shed was bursting at the seams with a fantastic range of quality furniture.
Along with hundreds of individual donations, many local organisations came on board to help. Classic Builders donated 2 truck loads of fantastic ex showhome
furniture, including lounge suits, fridge/freezers, tables, mirrors and clocks. St John's Presbyterian Church in Rotorua (coordinated by Daniel from
Darryl Church Architecture) donated 18 bench seats, and Sharp Tudhope lawyers coordinated a non-perishable food drive amongst their employees.
Feedback from Edgecumbe has been extremely positive with organisers down there being really pleased with the quality of furniture sent.
A big thank you to all those individuals and organisations who got involved. These awesome donations will go to valuable use and be much appreciated.
